Sunset, Mackinac Island – An Original Poem

Sun sets over Mission Point at Mackinac Island;
the light lingers on the treetops the way a good
Darjeeling lingers at the back of the tongue.

Thunderstorms & Lilacs

Fellow Tea Drinkers,

There is an amazing Spring storm sitting over our house right now and I nearly jumped off the couch with the last thunderclap. I think that this will be a short entry in the interest of shutting down my computer to avoid a power surge due to the storm!

One thing that I really love about where we live is the few weeks each year when the lilacs bloom. For a few days, the buds peak out and then suddenly the air smells like lilacs everywhere! That is why you have to try our Laura’s Blend Tea Shop Tea. This is an Earl Grey with lilac that is perfect for a sunny May morning when the toast has been eaten and the windows are all open. (It’s also nice to have during a torrential downpour such as we’re having tonight, since it makes one think of how sunny it will be tomorrow morning!)

Introducing Tea Shirts!

Dear Fellow Tea Drinkers,

I see that many you have have already stopped to take a peek at our new product line, but I’d like to maek the official announcement anyway. Beginning in April, The Tea Shop is pleased to introduce our new line of Tea Shirts! These are high quality t-shirts that bring the world face to face with your love of tea. Catchy, humorous, or straight forward, you’re sure to find a slogan that suits you!

Back to the tea itself. My choice for the month is one of my favortite Tea Shop Darjeelings. My inspiration came while reading a fascinating article about a recent expedition to Mount Everest, the highest peak of the Himilayas. (Stay away from these Himilayan hornets. Their sting can dissolve flesh!!) Though not named for Everest, the name of this pinnacular Darjeeling is something akin to Thus far and no farther, an indication of where, according to legend, it is to be found. This Runglee Rungliot Estate is most certainly a cut above the rest!

And lastly, for a bit of fun, I bring you a site that my wonderful wife clipped for me. The ultimate tea-lover’s vacation? It certainly seems that way! As our weather here has swung lately between winter cold and spring chill, this unique little spot appeals to me more and more. The Shop does not have any ties to this company, nor have we been to the estate, so though we cannot officially recommend a stay here, it does turn our wistful eye. (If any of our readers have been here, please add a comment or send us an email.)

In central Sri Lanka, just 3 hours from Colombo by car or 30 minutes by seaplane to the Castlereagh Lake, lies the Bogawantalawa Valley, known as the Golden Valley of Tea and home to old Ceylon, replete with rolling green hills, plantation bungalows, high tea and exquisite service.Here in solitude, at an elevation of 4000 feet above sea level, lies Ceylon Tea Trails, 4 classic colonial bungalows built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj. These historic houses have been restored by Dilmah Tea to offer guests the unique experience of life on a working tea estate. Bungalow sizes range from 4 to 6 rooms; 20 luxurious rooms and suites in all.
