Geeks on tea, and tea in a (bleh!) bottle

Rating the diet green teas – Lifehacker

  • This is another great LifeHacker post about tea! Well, it’s about bottled diet green teas actually, but the page has a great discussion thread. It’s so cool to see so many geeks who are into tea! The benefits of green tea have been "mainstream" for a long time now; I think green tea itself is finally finding it’s way into whatever the heck "mainstrean" is. - post by telecommatt
Studies, scientists, and everyday people increasingly tout green tea as a miracle drug. It burns calories. It fights HIV. It cuts the risk of certain diseases. It’s good for your teeth. And it enables invisibility and teleportation. Okay, I made that last one up; been watching too much Heroes, I guess.

The true power of a cup of tea

The True Power of Water with Dr. Emoto

  • Went to this lecture when Dr. Emoto was in Minneapolis last Thursday. I think everyone in the audience heard something that they could connect with personally. His pictures are amazing! He even threw in some pictures of water crystals using Minneapolis images. And even though he spoke through a translator, he was very funny. I have to wonder though, if water is so incredibly powerful, how much more powerful is a cup of tea?? - post by telecommatt
Drawing from his own research, scientific researcher, healer, and popular lecturer Dr. Masaru Emoto will teach you how the ability of water can absorb, hold, and even retransmit human feelings and emotions. In this eye-opening evening, you’ll learn how water is deeply connected to people’s individual and collective consciousness. Since humans and the earth are composed mostly of water, Masaru Emoto’s message is one of personal health, global environmental renewal, and a practical plan for peace that starts with each one of us. The implications of this research create a new awareness of how we can positively impact the earth and our personal health.

C09 Burnside Estate

  • This is the tea that I’m drinking this afternoon. I love Ceylon teas! You can find very very good Ceylons for oftentimes much less than an Assam of lesser quality. This tea has a sharp tinge to it and a nice woody body that goes well with a sunny Autumn afternoon. I’m working on setting up a way to purchase products that I recommend without even leaving this page. You can try it out in demo mode now. I’d love feedback on it as well. – post by telecommatt

What to do with all that Plastic?

Queercents » Making Peace with Plastic Grocery Bags

  • I thought this was a good post. Good links including one to a pretty good podcast. If anyone else knows other uses, please comment. - post by telecommatt
John Roach at National Geographic News writes, “Plastic bags are so cheap to produce, sturdy, plentiful, easy to carry and store that they have captured at least 80 percent of the grocery and convenience store market since they were introduced a quarter century ago.”

  • We use plastic bags in our smaller garbage cans instead of buying more garbage bags. To store them we keep empty kleenex boxes and stuff them full of plastics bags. Then we can pull them out one at a time as we need them. - post by telecommatt

Bay View B & B

Bay View Bed and Breakfast of Mackinac

  • I love this place!! We stayed here for our honeymoon and just got back from another stay there. The staff are so nice and accomodating and the whole place is clean and comfortable. The rooms are amazing. We recommend 205 or 207; both have private verandas with fantastic views. And don’t forget to try the Bay View blend coffee made with Mackinac fudge! - post by telecommatt
Warm, yet comfortable days and cool star lit nights are the essence of the Bay View at Mackinac Island… nestled in the heart of the Great Lakes of Northern Michigan… where the water can touch the sky and sunsets dance to a silhouette of the old lighthouse off neighboring Round Island; quiet breezes nudge sailboats from port to port, and the Northern Lights sometimes dance ’til dawn.

  • I can’t say enough good things about this place! We just got back last night, which is why I haven’t posted in a few days. It was so relaxing and so hard to leave! - post by telecommatt

Sunset, Mackinac Island – An Original Poem

Sun sets over Mission Point at Mackinac Island;
the light lingers on the treetops the way a good
Darjeeling lingers at the back of the tongue.

Posting Resumed and the Tea Geek has a Birthday!

Dear Tea Aficionados,

After an unintentionally long summer break, it’s great to be posting again! I wish I could say that the extended silence was caused by a trip to exotic lands in search of the rarest of rare teas, but it really had more to do with computer maintenance than anything else.

You may notice in some slight changes to the blog postings coming up. Due to feedback and some successes with other blogs I maintain, I’ll be posting more frequently and many postings will be shorter. We’ll be branching out from The Shop a bit to bring you tea news and musings. Think of it like “Thoughts from The Shop” instead of just “News from the Shop.”

In other items of note, it’s the webmaster’s (that’s me) birthday today! And yes, the Tea Geek is a true Geek, celebrating by posting to his blog… I wanted to tell you about the tea that I’m drinking tonight though. I thought I’d mix things up a bit on my birthday and add some milk and sugar to our Three Assam Estate Blend. I’m usually a purist when it come to my cuppa, but tonight I came home just craving this. I actually used Silk Vanilla Soy milk and about a teaspoon of sugar. It ends up with a wonderful nutty flavor and the vanilla taste lingers just long enough to blend with the aftertaste of the tea. Even if it’s not your birthday, this is a great Autumn taste that goes well with the smell of woodsmoke and apples. Cheers!
